s the name implies, the Indian Pacific spans
a continent and touches two oceans on one of the world's
longest train journeys. But most of |
your cruising will be across the vast continent of Australia.
From the west you cross the treeless plains of the Nullarbor,
to the spectacular Blue Mountains on Australia's east cost.
During your journey you will see unique landscapes unfold and
spot a fascinating array of wildlife... all from the comfort
of the lounge or your cabin.
Recently celebrating its 30th anniversary, The Indian Pacific,
or 'IP' as it is affectionately known to train buffs, has traveled
more than 27 million kilometres and carried around 2.7 million
passengers. The journey from Perth to Adelaide covers 2690 km
(1670 miles) and in either direction you'll have 2 nights aboard
this great train.
There are many things to see as you cross this vast continent...
And you can get up close and personal if you decide to take
an optional off-train sightseeing tour... offered during your
scheduled stop at gold rich Kalgoorlie.
The remote outpost of Cook on the Nullarbor Plain.... population

and keep your eyes peeled for a sighting of Australia's magnificent
wedge tailed eagle (the trains symbol)... Its wingspan which
can be up to two metres makes it easy to spot in the clear
desert sky.
