Rockhampton your trip continues to the region's largest coal
town, Blackwater, where more than 5 million tonnes of
coal is mined every year. From Blackwater the Spirit
will head west through Barcaldine, Emerald and the great
sapphire
fields of Anakie, following the Tropic of Capricorn inland
over the Great Dividing Range to Longreach... the largest
town in the central west, famous for the Australian Stockman's
Hall of Fame - an historical monument to the original pioneers
and explorers.
This is an area of opal mines and history rich with dinosaurs
and Aboriginal cave paintings, stockmen and bush rangers.
