s it's name suggests, this twice
weekly service journeys west from Brisbane through the
rich farmlands of the Darling Downs and Toowoomba...
on to Roma, one of Queenslands most flourishing grazing
towns and then Mitchell with its |
end-destination being Charleville, the largest outback town
in this south-west region of Queensland. It's from here you'll
have the chance to experience the actual workings of a real
Australian outback station.
The Westlander provides comfortable, fully air-conditioned
travel in a choice of first and economy class sleeping compartments
and economy sitting cars. A welcoming buffet car offers a
range of tasty meals, snacks and light refreshments.
On arrival into Charleville, visitors can explore a number
of attractions including the eye opening Cosmos centre, a
dedicated stargazing observatory that offers a whole new perspective
on astrological viewing. Other attractions include the Royal
Flying Doctors Service Base and Visitor's Centre, Bidjara
Aboriginal Art Workshop and the Charleville Heritage Trail
which guides visitors through the history of the town and
its charming heritage buildings... or you can head off and
visit a working property and after an exciting day of new
discoveries, try a hot and steamy, yet thoroughly relaxing,
artesian spa.
Connecting road coaches operate to the nearby towns of Cunnamulla
and Quilpie, with each town offering a number of tourist attractions
and sites of historic interest.
