Catseye Bay Trail |

This is quite a pleasant walk and starts in front
of the Hibiscus Apartments(1), wanders over the rolling hills
along Catseye Bay to Hideaway Beach (3). This Hamilton Island trail is also
the starting trail for Passage Peak, Escape Beach and South
East Head trails. |

This challenging Hamilton Island walk will take
you to the top of Hamilton Island where you will have magnificent
360° panoramic views of the Whitsunday Islands. The large
and magnificent Pentecost Island can be seen to the south and
is
the only island Captain Cook names as he sailed through in
1770. Turning off the Catseye Bay trail at (2), the path leads
you up to the Saddle Crossroads (4). There are seats provided
here so you can rest and regain your breath. Signposts here
will lead you to the trail and up to Passage Peak (5). |

South East Head |

This is a long walk and
only to be attempted by experienced walkers. This Hamilton Island bush walk is a challenge but is well
worth the effort however with great views south to Pentecost
Island and the Lindeman group. Starting on the Catseye Bay
trail make your way to the Saddle Crossroad (4) and follow
the signs up the hill. At the T-junction (6) take the trail
to the left (7) following the sign to Passage Peak until you
come to another T-junction and take the track to the right
which will lead you to Broken Point and South East Head (9). |

Escape Beach |

This bush walk should only
be attempted by experienced walkers with a good level of fitness
as it is a long walk with steep island inclines and challenging terrain.
Escape Beach on Hamilton Island is such a beautiful tropical untouched beach however
that it makes the effort worthwhile. From the crossroads at
(4) follow the signs up the hill to the T-junction at (6).
Turn right and proceed along the ridge to the intersection
at (8). Take the path to the right as the path to the left
is a dead end finishing at (10). From here make your way carefully
down the hill to Escape Beach (11). |

Resort Lookout Trail |

This walk takes you to
the top of the second highest peak on Hamilton Island. This
lookout has views over the resort, harbour and out across the
Whitsunday Passage. Starting from the airport side at (12),
take the trail up to the T-junction at (13). Right takes you
to Coral Cove so turn left and follow the trail all the way
to the lookout at (16). |

Start this walk from the
airport side of the island at (12) and follow the winding trail
up to the Y-junction at (13). Turn right to take the retail
down to Coral Cove (14). This beautiful Hamilton Island beach is used by 4WD
Safari Tours for BBQ's. |

Ridge Walk |

This bush walk can be taken
from two directions. The first is from the Crossroads at (4)
which takes you up a steady climb along the ridge which divides
Hamilton Island in two. The second is from the Resort Lookout Trail
taking the turn-off at (15) and descending down the ridge to
the Crossroads (4). |

Hamilton Island consists of 740
hectares of forest, foreshore and resort. Keep an eye open
for the following animals on your walks:

Walking Tips on Hamilton Island
Water: Taking water is
absolutely essential.
Sunblock: Use regardless of weather conditions.
Shoes: Comfortable, enclosed and with
good tread are a must.
Walking Alone: You should inform someone
where you are going and when you will be back.
Camera: Don't forget to use it!
Insect Repellent: Use for your own
protection.
